About a year ago, St. Anthony Chaplain and Spiritual Care Director, Angelo Luis embarked on a heartfelt mission alongside a dedicated committee to secure funding for a remarkable cause: acquiring a spacious, wheelchair-accessible bus tailored for the residents and tenants of St. Anthony Nursing Home, Garden View, and Orchard View for events and outings. This initiative was driven by a series of spirited events including Chaplain Angelo’s marathon, a car wash, a lucky duck drawing, a bake sale, as well as generous memorial and special gifts, including a significant contribution from the Carroll County Foundation.Senior Services Bus

“There was a constant challenge in securing suitable transportation for outings and other special events for our seniors”, said Chaplain Angelo. “This bus allows for our residents and tenants to enjoy social events, ice cream outings, and just taking the scenic cruise around Iowa’s countryside.”

The dream materialized this week as the fundraising goal was joyfully met. On Monday, July 1, senior residents, tenants, staff, and donors came together in celebration. The bus was driven to the St. Anthony Nursing Home by Angelo and all got to watch as it pulled in the circle drive.

The celebration commenced with a short program that honored the generosity and camaraderie that made this achievement possible. All were treated to cookies and tours of the new bus, marveling at its accommodations designed to enhance mobility and comfort for all passengers.

BlessingFather Merlin Schrad ended the celebration with a blessing of the bus, a moment that emphasized the bus's significance beyond its practicality—it symbolized community solidarity and compassionate care.

“The arrival of this new bus marks not just a transportation milestone, but a testament to the collective goodwill and the spirit of giving at St. Anthony,” said Jerry Wordekemper, St. Anthony Senior Services Administrator.
