Give More Than Grain

A gift of grain is a meaningful way to support the St. Anthony Foundation while helping advance high-quality healthcare close to home. Whether you’re considering a gift from your current harvest or grain already in storage, donating grain can offer flexibility and may provide tax benefits, depending on your individual circumstances.

HOW IT WORKS

Decide what you’d like to give.

Choose an amount of grain that fits your philanthropic and financial goals. You can donate grain from your current harvest or grain already in storage.

Transfer ownership of the grain.

Take your grain to your local elevator or cooperative and let them know you wish to transfer ownership to the St. Anthony Foundation. This step is important to ensure the grain is transferred and marketed appropriately.

Request a receipt.

Be sure to receive documentation showing that you have relinquished ownership of the grain to the St. Anthony Foundation. Keep this receipt for your records and share it with your tax adviser.

Notify the St. Anthony Foundation.

Contact the Foundation to let us know about your gift and which elevator or cooperative received the grain. We will work directly with the elevator or cooperative to complete the transfer, arrange for the sale of the grain and have the proceeds sent to the Foundation.

Receive your gift acknowledgment.

Once the transaction is complete, the St. Anthony Foundation will notify you and provide an acknowledgment of your generous gift.

Potential Tax Benefits

A direct gift of grain may have different tax implications than selling the grain and donating the cash proceeds. Depending on your individual circumstances, donating grain may offer tax advantages, including the potential to avoid recognizing the sale of the commodity as taxable income.

Tax rules and individual circumstances vary, so farmers should consult their accountant or tax adviser before making a grain gift.

We’re Here to Help

Most elevators and cooperatives are familiar with charitable grain donations. If your elevator or cooperative has questions about the process, please have them contact the St. Anthony Foundation. We’re happy to help walk them through the necessary steps.

Because the details matter, please be sure to complete the ownership transfer before the grain is sold.

Your Harvest. Your Community. A Lasting Impact.

A gift of grain is more than a charitable contribution—it’s an investment in the health of the people and communities we serve.

Your generosity helps the St. Anthony Foundation support initiatives that strengthen healthcare throughout our region. From a current harvest to grain that has been stored, your hard work can make a meaningful difference for generations to come.
