The grant funds will be used to purchase a GE Panda Warmer for the St. Anthony Emergency Department.

St. Anthony Regional Hospital has received a grant from Variety – the Children’s Charity to purchase a GE Panda Warmer for the St. Anthony Emergency Department (ED). The Panda Warmer is a piece of infant care equipment that can regulate an infant’s temperature, and provide respiratory support, and it allows the healthcare team to easily perform necessary procedures.

Due to closure of obstetrical (OB) units in hospitals across Iowa over the last fifteen to twenty years, there has been an increase in out-of-hospital and emergency room deliveries in the area. At St. Anthony, Panda Warmers are available and kept in the obstetrical unit, The Birth Place, and are transported to the ED when needed. However, an infant in distress needs immediate care, so having a Panda Warmer that stays in the ED is valuable.

“As we see an increase in the number of births at St. Anthony, it is important to keep our current Panda Warmers readily available in The Birth Place. Receiving this grant from Variety – the Children’s Charity will meet the increasing need to have this specialized equipment in our ED minimizing any delay in providing care to our tiniest, most vulnerable patients,” said Anita Becker, Vice President of Patient Services. “We are grateful and thank Variety- the Children’s Charity!”
