Meet Dr. Francis Asamoah
Since joining the St. Anthony Cancer Center earlier this summer, Dr. Francis Asamoah has been providing compassionate, expert care to patients throughout our region.
As a radiation oncologist, Dr. Asamoah specializes in developing advanced, personalized treatment plans for patients facing cancer. His expertise and commitment to patient-centered care have been a wonderful addition to our Cancer Center team.
If you see Dr. Asamoah around campus, be sure to introduce yourself and say hello!

Financial Assistance for St. Anthony Child Care Center is Available!
Financial assistance for tuition is offered for eligible St. Anthony families. To be considered, families must first complete the enrollment registration process. Once registered, families will receive the tuition assistance application and next steps.
Helmsley Charitable Trust
St. Anthony received a $2 million grant from The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust to support construction of a permanent PET/CT scanner suite, an important addition to local cancer care services.

We Are One TEAM: St. Anthony Recognized for Nurse and Physician Communication
Nationally recognized. Locally proud.
St. Anthony Regional Hospital is one of only 183 hospitals nationwide – and one of eight in Iowa – to earn five-star ratings for both nurse and physician communication, according to patient experience data reported by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and highlighted by Becker’s Hospital Review.
The recognition highlights hospitals where patients consistently report exceptional communication with both their nursing staff and physicians during their hospital stay. The ratings are based on responses to the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey, the national standard for measuring patients’ perspectives on hospital care. CMS publicly reports these ratings to help patients make informed healthcare decisions.
The Birth Place Partners with Community to Support Breastfeeding Families
The Birth Place at St. Anthony is proud be part of the West Central Iowa Breastfeeding Coalition to launch the Breastfeeding Friendly Business Initiative, a community effort focused on creating supportive workplaces for breastfeeding employees.
Returning to work shouldn’t mean the end of a family’s breastfeeding journey. Through this initiative, local businesses and organizations are encouraged to make simple, meaningful changes that help employees continue breastfeeding after returning to work.
Participating businesses receive resources and education to help:
- Support employee wellness and retention
- Create welcoming, breastfeeding-friendly workplaces
- Earn community recognition for their commitment to families
- Strengthen the health and well-being of families throughout West Central Iowa
Businesses of all sizes—including schools, healthcare organizations, manufacturers, retail businesses, and offices—are invited to participate.
Blessing of the New St. Anthony Statue
A new statue of St. Anthony has been installed at the Office Building entrance, providing a meaningful reminder of the values and mission that have guided St. Anthony Regional Hospital for more than a century.
As the patron saint of our hospital, St. Anthony symbolizes faith, compassion, hope, and service to others. His example inspires the healing ministry carried out each day by those who care for patients, families, and the community.
All staff members are warmly invited to attend a special blessing of the statue on Tuesday, August 11, at 1 p.m. at the Office Building entrance. Fr. Merlin Schrad will offer the blessing as we gather to dedicate this special addition to our campus and reflect on the mission that unites us.
Please join us for this brief and meaningful celebration.
The Future of St. Anthony is Taking Shape!

Congratulations to Alex Gilland on earning her Master of Social Work (MSW)!
Alex was also recently recognized for a StAR award. Her nomination read: “Alex and I have worked together for a while on intakes and patient care when individuals transition from St. Anthony’s to the transitional living program I run. While Alex is always great to work with I had a member she went above and beyond to help with. When he came to us his pain management was not under control and she assisted us with getting him into the MAT clinic, coordinated care with his current providers, and got him medication he needed. Alex was not the social worker who transitioned this member to us but she still ensured that he had the best continuum of care possible and when we were struggling she put in so much work to help us! She really is great at what she does!”
Piece Together for Hospice Puzzle Tournament
Grab your friends, pick your favorite beverages, and put your teamwork to the test! Join us for an evening of puzzles, prizes, and friendly competition—all while supporting compassionate hospice care in our community.
Teams of four will race to complete a 550-piece puzzle. Registration includes your team’s puzzle, snacks, and a 12-pack of beverages of your choice (mix and match if you’d like). The first team to finish takes home the $100 Grand Prize, and fun spot prizes will be awarded throughout the evening for categories like Best Team Name, Most Team Spirit, and more.

We’re also working to have one or two local food trucks on-site, so come hungry!

A St. Anthony Milestone: Celebrating 1,000-Plus Joint Replacements with the Mako Surgical Robot
Michael Dirkx, D.O., and Richard Goding, M.D., have each reached an incredible milestone in their medical careers. Dr. Dirkx recently performed his 500th surgery using the Stryker Mako robot, while Dr. Goding completed his 580th surgery. Together, the two have surpassed 1,000 robotic-assisted orthopedic procedures, strengthening access to advanced joint replacement surgery in the region.
We Are One St. Anthony - Teamwork
Most of us know what it takes to have a team work well together, but we don’t always do those things. Here are some friendly reminders:
- Listen respectfully to other peoples’ ideas without judgment. We all see the world differently, through our own unique set of “filters.”
- Give credit where credit is due. Appreciation is the glue that hold teams together!
- Leverage the strengths of the teams. Maximize the wisdom of the team by encouraging everyone to contribute. Ask for and offer support to your teammates.
- Be curious. Try not to make assumptions about “why” people do what they do.
Remember, it’s not about you; it’s about how your team can work together more effectively to get results!
