Access advanced technology, patient and resident interaction, and clinical experience in a complex rural healthcare setting.

Each year, St. Anthony welcomes students into more than 200 clinical experiences, including nursing, radiology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and anesthesia, to name a few. St. Anthony enjoys a collegial relationship with numerous local, regional and nationally-renowned universities and technical schools to offer practicums and preceptorships for students.

When a student reaches out to St. Anthony Regional Hospital for a Practicum or Preceptorship, they can be assured an exceptional experience from start to end. Our team is committed to helping students gain valuable career experience working in a rural community.

For Career Exploration, St. Anthony offers students interested in healthcare the opportunity to meet with professionals for informational interviews and department tours. These experiences help students learn about education requirements and the daily responsibilities of healthcare careers. Job shadowing opportunities are available on a limited, case-by-case basis.

Student Practicums and Preceptorships

Practicums and preceptorships are available to graduate and undergraduate students in affiliated programs. St. Anthony welcomes students in disciplines such as nursing, medicine, medical assisting, rehabilitation services, anesthesia, pharmacy, radiology, social work, and more.

Career Exploration

St. Anthony offers students with an interest in healthcare the opportunity to meet with a professional in the field of interest for an informational interview and department-based tour. The goals of the experience are to enrich the student’s current efforts to learn about education requirements and day-to-day demands of the job.

St. Anthony offers job shadowing experiences on a limited basis for the following students. These experiences are approved and coordinated on a case-by-case basis:

  • High school students enrolled in the Des Moines Area Community College Career Academy course. These experiences are scheduled through DMACC.
  • Students enrolling in a radiology or physical therapy program requiring observation.
  • Students in affiliated programs which include observation as part of the program.
  • Employees of St. Anthony who have an interest in exploring healthcare careers.

COVID-19 Vaccination
If Yes, please provide the information about your particular COVID-19 vaccine. If no, skip to the next section.



Influenza Vaccination



Measles, Mumps, Rubella (*MMR) Vaccination
A total of two MMR's or a blood test (titer) showing positive immunity is required.



Hepatitis B Vaccination
Hepatitis B vaccinations are not a requirement, but recommended for anyone at risk for exposure to blood and/or blood products. A declination must be completed if applicable.



Varicella (Chicken Pox) Vaccination
Two Varicella vaccinations OR a positive titer will be accepted.



Tuberculosis (TB) Screening
Please provide official TB skin test results. Students consistently scheduled for 5 or more hours per week are required to have 2-step TB skin test. At least one step (skin test) must be completed within the 12 months prior to working at St. Anthony. If needed, students may obtain a TB skin test from the St. Anthony Employee Health Nurse for a fee of $25.

I acknowledge that I am aware of the following facts:

  • COVID-19 vaccination is recommended for me and all other healthcare workers to prevent COVID-19 and its complications, including death.
  • If I become infected with COVID-19, even if I am asymptomatic or my symptoms are mild, I can still spread severe illness to others.
  • I cannot get infected with the COVID-19 virus from the COVID-19 vaccine.
