The Emergency Department (ED) at St. Anthony Regional Hospital provides high-quality care for residents in Carroll and the surrounding area who have emergency medical needs. The ED is open and staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week with physicians, nurses, and ED technicians experienced in medical emergency care. Surgical Services, Laboratory, Radiology, Pharmacy, and Pastoral Care support staff are available around the clock to care for anyone seeking emergency care.
St. Anthony is designated as a Level IV Trauma Center. Trauma level designation recognizes the emergency trauma services available and ensures patients are transported when necessary for trauma related care services. Staff in the ED and ancillary support teams receive training related to caring for the trauma patient. Nurses receive Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) training and physicians receive Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS). These certifications allow nurses and physicians to receive the most up to date trauma related best practices.
Our level of care and services stand tall. The average length of stay is well below the national average. Our 18 nurses, 1 paramedic, and 10 ER Techs have 150+ combined years of service. In addition to years of experience, this staff carries multiple certifications including Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC), Basic Life Support (BLS), and many have their Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP). There are other certification this dedicated staff uses to keep themselves up to date on care and recommendations.
Seven of our nurses have gone above and beyond their required certifications and sought out specialty certifications in Emergency Care, Flight Nursing, and Pediatric Nursing. The number of specialty certified nurses grows every year in the ED. In addition to specialty certifications, other nurses have taken on leadership roles instructing life support classes and other educational opportunities.
