The radiation oncology team includes a board-certified radiation oncologist who specializes in using radiation to treat cancer and prescribes and oversees the type of treatment optimal for each patient in his or her specific situation. The radiation oncologist works closely with other physicians and healthcare professionals involved in each patient’s care.
A board-certified medical physicist is responsible for the equipment that delivers the radiation, as well as the correct application of the radiation prescribed. The physicist works closely with the physician, dosimetrist, and radiation therapists to assure accurate and precise treatment planning and delivery.
A board-certified dosimetrist generates the treatment plan that is used to deliver the radiation therapy treatment. The dosimetrist creates a specific plan for each patient according to the prescription from the radiation oncologist. Our board-certified radiation therapists provide treatment setup, imaging, and the daily delivery of treatment under the direction of the radiation oncologist. A registered nurse, who is experienced in managing the specific needs of radiation therapy patients, helps assure a smooth treatment course.
